What are Skills in Ovida?
Last updated: May 25, 2026
Skills give you a focused space to practise specific communication abilities, track your progress, and get AI-powered feedback tailored to your team's standards.
Skills are not enabled by default. If you'd like Skills built specifically for your team, email support@ovida.org.
Why Skills
Any time someone develops a capability — a musician learning a piece, a doctor mastering a technique — they follow the same loop:
Get an objective view of their current ability
Acquire new theoretical knowledge
Practise deliberately, often with feedback from a skilled coach
Communication skills should follow the same loop. Historically, that's been hard because there were no tools to capture how we communicate objectively, surface structured feedback, or track improvement over time.
Skills closes that gap. Each Skill is a dedicated track for one communication ability you're developing, with its own space for learning, practising, and tracking progress.
What's in a Skill
Each Skill you're working on includes:
A clear objective: what you're trying to improve
Meeting analysis focused on just that one skill
An AI agent that can role-play with you, for unlimited practice
A space for trainers and trainees to engage on progress over time
A discussion thread for ongoing support and check-ins
This is different from a regular meeting review, where a trainer gives feedback across many skill areas in a single conversation.
How the AI Skills Mentor works
Ovida scores conversations against your standards as well as our own. When Skills are set up for your team, we create an AI Skills Mentor tailored to how you work. It:
Imports your existing markers. Any rubrics, scorecards, or behavioural cues you already use go straight into the model.
Evaluates every conversation on the exact behaviours you care about.
Adapts as your people improve, tracking progress over time.
If you don't have a formal framework yet, that's not a blocker. We can build a working model by combining our communication-skills benchmarks with input from your subject-matter experts. If you have performance data (customer NPS, first-time-fix rates, revenue), we can also map specific behaviours to those outcomes.
Skills runs on recorded conversations. Some teams record live customer calls via API. Others use Ovida's video rooms for training and roleplays.
